PRESIDENTS REPORT
The year has got away from us once again; it has been a year of challenges and change. Running your own business is tough love, constantly aware of the uncertainty of what may lay around the bend. Even the most close-knit companies fray, while others simply burst at the seams. For the past few years the economy, and likewise business in general has been riding high and in some cases have made us a little complacent.

With the recent rise in interest rates and the spiraling fuel costs, the strain on families especially the younger generation has become difficult to manage. As banks now start to take stock of foreclosures a surplus in lending funds are placed on the table in readiness for those willing to place themselves in the borrowing stakes. Queensland is having a wonderful time because of the weak Government in NSW.

There is significant investment here from UAE and Korea who are sick of loosing money in the USA . Queensland with Australia ’s largest infrastructure spend and rapidly rising population will have a greater prosperity than most other parts of the nation. In particular, the outlook for the Gold Coast’s economy is positive and the flow on effect to local business and, consequently, the demand for commercial property space and related investments in the region.

In a meeting with the Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser, and a consultive meeting with the Minister for main roads, obvious questions were raised on the M1 situation. Furthermore as to when we could expect works to be started and completed in our neck of the woods. As one would expect a lot of non commitment to the final outcome, however the best scenario we could achieve is that Mudgeeraba interchange is scheduled to start at the end of this year. Hard to imagine considering there will be another community consultant meeting some time in the future to satisfy us of their plans. One thing that was clear, the original overpass over the M1 will remain becoming two lanes to Robina, a new four lane bridge will be built to accommodate traffic leaving Robina. Predominately the rest of the Mudgeeraba project remains unchanged from the last draft put forward.
